Major Research Achievements

Since the July of 2008 when we set up the first professional laboratory specializing in natural product synthesis at KIB, we have completed total synthesis of three natural Lycopodium alkaloids (-)-8-deoxyserratinine, (+)-fawcettimine and (+)-lycoflexine.
We have successfully achieved the first asymmetric total synthesis of (-)-8-deoxyserratinine (7) via a novel efficient route by which some of critical issues such as synthetic efficiency and selectivity have been improved remarkably compared to its previous route.
We still focuses on the total synthesis of Lycopodium alkaloids based on the experiences obtained over last three years. Four specific examples are palhinine A, lycopaniculatine, sieboldine A and lycojapodine A. Two of those alkaloids, palhnine A and lycojapodine A, whose total synthesis received considerable attention, were isolated and reported by the colleagues of KIB for the first time. Other two complex terpenoids lancifodilactone F and vinigrol are also our synthetic targets. We chose these as the targets because there are a number of merits in the sturcture we interested, namely, polycyclic skeleton embedding with multiple stereocenters, some even challengling quternary chiral center.
