Call for application under NOMA (Norad’s Master) Programme 

M. Sc. in Biodiversity and Environmental Management (2010-2012 Batch)

 

The Central Department of Botany has launched a Master’s Program in “Biodiversity and Environmental Management” from 2008 in collaboration with the University of Bergen, Norway and regional collaborating partners - Kunming Institute of Botany (China), Kumaun University (India) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (India).

 

The Department enrolls 14 students (10 from Nepal, 2 from China and 2 from India) for this program. The two years Program consists of four semesters; the first semester runs at the Central Department of Botany, while the second semester runs at University of Bergen, Norway, the last two semesters are allotted for thesis. Students from regional countries can undertake research either in Nepal or in their own countries. The academic degree will be awarded by Tribhuvan University after successfully completing 120 European Credit Transfer System.

 

Selection Procedure

 

Submission of application form: December 1 to 31, 2009

Entrance examination: Second  week of January 2010 

·     Result of Short listed candidates: Third week of January 2010.

·     Presentation/Interview: Immediately after short listing.

·     Final list of selected candidates and Admission: Fourth week of January, 2010.

·     Candidates arrive Kathmandu in the first week of February

·     Class starts from February 12, 2010

 

Eligibility

 

·     Candidates holding a two to three years Bachelors degree plus M. Sc. Degree OR Four years Bachelors degree in Biological Science (Botany, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Agriculture, Wildlife) from an accredited university are eligible to apply.

·     Applicants should submit an English Language Proficiency in TOEFL (215/300 or 550/667) or IELTS (Above 5.5/9) at the time application.

·     Candidate having job should submit a letter certifying her/his leave for study, and citizenship.

·     Candidates from India and China will be provided accommodation at the International Hostel, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, and the room rent will be paid directly by the programme.

·     A modest scholarship is available to all the candidates

·     Candidates from India and China will receive air ticket once to reach Kathmandu, and second time from Kathmandu to their respective countries.

·     The programme will pay all travel costs from Kathmandu to Bergen and back to those candidates who successfully complete first sememster in Nepal.

·     NOMA encourages equal female participation
