2009 Annual Conference of Swedish Environment Secretariat in Asia was Successfully Held in Kunming

  From March 17th to 19th, Swedish Environment Secretariat in Asia successfully held its sixth annual conference in Kunming, which was undertaken by KIB and World Agroforestry Center. Besides the meeting representatives, the following people were also invited to attend the meeting: director of Yunnan Federation of Social Sciences Wng Yi-ming, president of Kunming Branch of CAS Zhang Zhuang-xin, the Swedish ambassador to Thailand Ambassador Lennart Linner, the Swedish ambassador to Beijing Ambassador Mikael Lindstrom, the executive director Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) Mia Horn af Rantzien, director of the Swedish Environment Secretariat in Asia Christer Holtsberg, deputy director of the Kunming Institute of CAS Yang Yongping and chief representative of World Agroforestry Center China Program Xu Jianchu, etc. Li Dezhu, director of the Kunming Institute of Botany of CAS, presented the reception dinner on March 17th.

  It is learned that Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, as the important developing region of Sweden, Swedish International Cooperation Development Agency and Swedish Environment Secretariat in Asia,  has developed different kinds of international cooperative projects in the past few years. For example, cooperated with Swedish Environment Secretariat in Asia, Thailand Environment Institute and World Agroforestry Center China Program,  proposed assessment methods on good environmental governance for civil society organizations. Kunming has an important role in the future project development of Swedish Environment Secretariat in Asia. The successfully holding of the annual conference in Kunming laid a good foundation for the future cooperation with Swedish International Cooperation Development Agency, Swedish Environment Secretariat in Asia, KIB and other units.

  On the morning of March 19th, the 35 participants visited Kunming Institute of Botany. Deputy director Yang Yongping introduced the development history of the institute, subject layout and the main research directions, etc. The participants then visited the National Major Science Project-Germplasm Bank of Wild Species in Southwest China, Biodiversity and Biogeography Laboratory of CAS, the herberium, the State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China and the Botanical Garden.
