Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (KIB/CAS) had a spectacularly successful year in 2015. Briefly, 2015 was extraordinary year.  

As a direct result of the “Pioneer Initiative” of CAS, KIB became one of the pilot batches of “Feature Institutes” (each with a distinct scientific mission). KIB successfully completed the mission for the 12th Five Year Plan (which ended in 2015), and established the objectives for the 13th Five Year Plan. 

In 2015, KIB has made numerous achievements. Yunnan Key Laboratory for Wild Plant Resources was formerly approved by the Yunnan Provincial government, an achievement highlighting recent breakthroughs of KIB as a local plant resources research platform. Furthermore, the Key Laboratory of Plant Diversity and Biogeography of East Asia has gained acceptance as a CAS “level A” laboratory, and main construction works of the Fu Li Gong Greenhouse have been completed, inspected and approved. In addition, the C.Y. WU Science Foundation and research center was established.   

The innovation ability and benefits of the institute have been notably strengthened in 2015. Research funding has increased to 26.7 million USD, partly through a number of new projects in 2015. 

In 2015, KIB have published 519 SCI-listed papers, and a substantial number of research achievements have been published in high-profile international journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Angewandte Chemie-International Edition, and Natural Product Reports.   

Furthermore, there are number of other achievements for International Cooperation, Public Environmental Education, research department, support department etc.
