On 27 November 2023, a ceremony was held in Kunming to renew the cooperation agreement between Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (KIB/CAS) and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE).
KIB Director Puno Pematenzin and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Deputy Director Pete Hollingsworth signed the agreement on behalf of the two organizations, respectively. Angus Robertson MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture of the UK Scottish Government, was present to witness the signing ceremony.
KIB and RBGE established a twinning relationship in 1991, thereafter have carried out research cooperation, such as the restoration of the Lijiang Alpine Botanical Garden, the compilation of Flora of China (English version), and the study of plant DNA barcodes. The renew of agreement will further promote co-operation between the two sides in the fields of endangered plants conservation, DNA Barcoding research, biodiversity monitoring, etc.
