On October 29, an awarding ceremony for honorary professors was held at KIB. Academician Sun Handong conferred an Appointment Letter of Honorary Professor to Dr. Hugh W. Pritchard, head of Research Section, Seed Conservation, Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew.

Dr. Hugh W. Pritchard works on the Millennium Seed Bank (MSB) Project and is a world-renowned seed biologist.

KIB and Kew Garden have kept good cooperation ties for many years. For the Millennium Seed Bank Project (MSBP) China programme, a10-year agreement was signed between the MSB and the Southwestern China Wild Seed Bank (SCWSB) in May 2004. Under this agreement, 4,000 threatened and endemic plant species from China will be targeted and safeguarded in the SCWSB by 2010, half of which will be exchanged or duplicated in the MSB.
