On June 24th, Prof Martin Chalfie, chair of the Department of Biological Sciences at Columbia University, also the winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, visited the State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China, Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB) and had a brief discussion with KIB researchers on their drug screening and research to extend lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans.
Martin Chalfie was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2008 jointly with Osamu Shimomura, and Roger Y. Tsien "for the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein, GFP".
