Okayama University and Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences concluded collaborative research agreement on August 28.
Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, one of major institutes of plant research in China, practices global-scale research activities by using various plant germ-plasm stocks and traditional knowledge on them. After concluding university-level cooperative agreement with this institute in 2004, we’ve had active collaborative research exchange and research works. Especially, collaborative research conducted under JSPS Asian CORE Program (Research Title: Cooperative Research and Education Center for Important Plan Genetic Resources in East Asia, Names of coordinators: Japanese side Prof. Kenji Kato and Chinese side Prof. Chunlin Long) has been well underway since 2009.
We believe that this research agreement makes it possible for related faculty members and researchers to engage in more and more active research works, such as efficient selecting of chemical compound for potential curative drug, analyzing mechanism of function of chemical compound, etc., which lead to new drug development of refractory infection. For the first step, we invited Associate Prof. Yuehu Wang from this institute and started the joint research.
On this day, “Symposium on Plant Genetic Resources in East Asia” co-hosted with JSPS was held at Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. 7 of our faculty members including Prof. Yusuke Wataya and 12 researchers from Chinese side presented their research achievement and exchanged research information.
