Rare Orchid Blooms in Southwest China

In mid-July, a group of bird lovers set out in the primitive forest of the Gaoligong Mountains in southwest China. They walked for half a day in the muddy woods just to see some small flowers. Small as they may be, Corybas sinii is an endangered orchid species.

Sun Weibang, a researcher at the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that there are six species of Corybas in China, all of great scientific value.
Genus Corybas is a ground herb that only has a single leaf and one flower, with only a few centimeters in height. They usually grow on moss or dead wood.
According to Sun, the population of Corybas sinii in the Gaoligong Moutains is estimated at about 700.  (CGTN)
